Forty Students Selected for Europe Petrol League Competition

Round one of the competition saw panelists from Shell, Schlumberger and Gaffney, Cline & Associates judge essays from 15 teams. The top ten teams, which include a team from Scotland´s Heriot Watt University, have made it through to round two which will see them battle it out in a day-long event during September´s Offshore Europe show in Aberdeen.

The event will involve a further five stages of competition, including question and answer buzzer rounds and case study analysis. As well as having an opportunity to demonstrate their technical knowledge in front of prospective employers, they will also be in with a chance to win a 3,000€ prize.

Oludare Elebiju, who heads the Europe Petro League project for the SPE Aberdeen Section, commented in a statement:

"We are delighted with the level of interest in this brand new competition and the caliber of entries we received for round one was extremely impressive.

"The judges faced some tough decisions to narrow teams down to a shortlist of ten, however after careful deliberation we have selected finalists who showed a real understanding of the industry, the technical aspects and the considerations for the future."
