The European Maritime Safety Agency in Lisbon provides technical assistance and support to the European Commission in the development and implementation of legislation on maritime safety and pollution caused by ships. The agency offers traineeships with various durations between 3 and 5 months to support activities within its jurisdiction. Traineeships usually start on 1 March and 1 October each year and take place in Lisbon.
The traineeship programme is addressed mainly to young citizens of European member states, Iceland or Norway, who have completed the first cycle of university education with a bachelor´s degree or equivalent. Moreover, a limited number of nationals of non-Member States may also be accepted according to available resources. They should have a an excellent knowledge of English and a good knowledge of another language of the EU Community.Trainees will be awarded a monthly grant of 910 euro/per month.
The traineeship programme aims to provide trainees with work experience in the field of maritime safety legislation, sea pollution and cooperation among member states in sea safety. In-service training enables trainees to acquire practical experience in the following areas: Human Resources & Events and Missions Support, Training of Seafarers, Analysis and Assessment, Pollution Response Services – Contract Management and Planning-, Satellite Based Monitoring Services.
