A consortium that includes Spanish construction and civil engineering company OHL has been awarded a concession to build the Doha metro´s two "most emblematic" stations for $1.4 billion, the group said Thursday in a statement.
The contract is valued at roughly 5.1 billion Qatari riyals ($1.4 billion), $500 million of which corresponds to civil engineering and the rest to electromechanical and architectural work.
These two stations will be "modern" buildings and serve as transfer points to different metro lines or other transportation modes, such as long-distance rail, the statement said.
Msheireb will be located in the heart of downtown Doha, which is currently undergoing an urban restoration project, and be the Qatari capital´s leading metro station.
The station in Education City, which is located on the outskirts of Doha and aims to be a center for educational excellence in the Persian Gulf region, will connect with a regional railway.
OHL already operates in Qatar throuInfragh its participation in the construction of the 2-billion-euro ($2.6-billion) Sidra Medical and Research Center.
