870 million, one eighth of the world’s population live in extreme hunger and poverty and exist on less than 80 pence a day. Hunger kills more people than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined. Millions of women, men and children die each year because of chronic persistent hunger – TWO million are children.
World Hunger Day is about raising awareness of the hunger and poverty related issues. The idea behind this day is to inspire people in both the developed and developing countries to show their harmony and support to end hunger and poverty.
Additionally World Hunger Day, will encourage even more organisations to work in partnership with each other and with the women, men and children in the developing world who seek to bring about a sustainable end to their own hunger and poverty.
